Just teasing, Doc. Anyone who has never earnestly tried shooting small at (proportionately) long range with a .22LR can have no real understanding of just how friggin difficult it is to do consistently.

And I love your attitude about the whole thing; lets just show up and do the best we can do. I'm with you 110% on that. I might not hit a single damned one of them, but it won't be because of a lack of sincere effort and (such as it is) applied skill.

On the off chance there is a set of eyes . . or maybe even a one-eyed sneaky snake, reading this I wan to 'splain somethin.

I use the Savage MKII as a trainer for the Remmy 700P because - with the right ammo - it works EXACTLY on a two to one scale to duplicate the performance. Get that?

    100 with the .22 = 200 with the .308.
    200 with the .22 = 400 with the .308.
    300 with the .22 = 600 with the .308.

When is the last time you (in the generic sense) hit the "x" consistently at 400 yards with your .308?

See what I am getting at? It is not negative, my point is that it takes a damned high level of skill to do well. You can spend $12,000 on a custom rifle and optic and if you don't have the other necessary skills you might as well be shooting a slingshot your 6-year old made for you.
I'm not kidding about the shell hulls. And the beer can was what we had on hand to show hits, unlike the pins. They show little marking at 200

I like shooting against guys that are better then me, it makes me more determined and I learn something every time.

Damn . Doc I could have sworn you said boo when I brought up magazine restrictions . But none the Less I've never claimed to be anything but a average shooter at best . I've been to every pin match and the two times I won I donated the money back to pay for first time shooters to shoot for free . I believe you shot for free your first time . JMW4570 donated his winnings as did my Son in law for the same purpose . Most of us shoot because we enjoy it . Is it possible that you are taking all this Internet bullshit to seriously ? I mean if it's not fun why bother. As always your opinion my vary.

No brother we are good! I said boo to the fact I thought it was gonna be a rifle shoot challenge next time and the response was if we can't do the same thing shooting at bowling pins with pistols at 10 yards then I don't want to play and the rifle shoot is just the secondary BS match. My point was I wanted to mix it up, adding various rifles at various ranges. Sorry for the confusion and for any perceived insult. But I do think mag restrictions are BS as I stated in another post. I vote for no restrictions on capacity or anything. Run what ya brung or get something more competitive. I thought you brought up position restrictions, and I commented that I was glad prone and sitting were good. When possible I go prone cause I'm more accurate and I'm a smaller target. YMMV. And I've only been to three pin matches so I'm still learning those ropes. That being said, I did feel like you threw down the gauntlet betting $100 against me and also with your additional post saying I was too busy practicing to weigh the pins. That is why I invited you to join the match with myself and rumbler. I like a shooter that will get out of his comfort zone and try NEW things. That's why I joined Talon and why I enjoy shooting with you guys. Y'all teach me new limits to things I've never tried to shoot and why I like shooting with you guys. I don't like being the best shooter in the group. I like competing against guys that are better shooters than me. It hones the edge sir.

I'll be your huckleberry.. Offhand standing, 50 yards on 5 pin tops, 10 round limit per magazine.

Lol if you shoot rifles anything like you shoot pistols then you will be formidable competition. I'll do offhand against you sir if you will concede the 10 round bullshit limit. And damn I'm under attack now by all the awesome shooters. However I will be damn honored to show and shoot against you guys. I may not win but I'll damn sure give it my best effort!

I don't know who (else) noticed last week but JMW4570 was on fire. But not because he was shooting particularly fast. It was because he wasn't missing often when he fired.

Here is the fast for you; firing five . . or six rounds, is faster than firing 35 . . or 36 rounds.

Y'all need to trust me on this, I am an old guy.
I'd rather be lucky than good, but I'd rather KNOW I'm good than HOPE to get lucky.

I agree which is why I say if a man is confident with his choice of weapons, however limited the capacity, he should not be afraid to shoot against anyone else, regardless of their choice of weapons whatever the round capacity. Downloading the mags to make it FAIR isn't real world shooting IMHO. If a guy is that good he should step to the line with whatever he brings and shoot against anyone else that brings their choice of weapons to the fight/match.

I really don't care what you shoot, how you shoot, etc. I was trying to get some guys to shoot offhand cause that's probably the hardest position for me to shoot well, next to sitting (and a bad back can make that interesting when a muscle spasm kicks in or a disc starts to bulge). To be honest, I believe going prone to shoot 50 yards should make you want to turn in your man card. If you are hitting cans at 200, where is the challenge at 50? No offense meant here, well.. maybe a little. 200 yards is a completely different game but I and others have hit the gong with pistols at that distance.

Again, I reiterate, I was just trying to make it challenging, induce a little stress, and get you guys (me too) out of your comfort zone of full magazines and completely supporting shooting positions. That's all. Embrace the suck ladies.

I will gladly shoot next to anyone who wants to shoot the same position as I do. Just a warning, if you are all bedded down prone on your air mattress in your air-conditioned gillie suit with your laser optic'd belt-fed, suppressed 22, don't get mad if you accidentally get stepped on.

    See you guys Thursday. Jim
