No lab coat and a scale with a dead battery?
Attachment 2892
So...........how long do you think this thread is going to have to go before you answer ONE of my questions? :D
Hard to say on peniletration. These pins were shot to shit before I cut em but I don't think the bullet penetrated. They did however cartwheel at 50 with no problems. I have an idea. Why don't you show up for a change and see for yourself? I'll try to get you the weight tomorrow though I don't see the relevance since you won't be there.
I probably won't have a chance to sight at 200 here since it's fairly dark when I get home and would have to go to the neighbors to sight in a 200 and he's surrounded by trees. However I'm always early for the pin match. All I ask is you let me adjust my scope at Talon prior to the shoot and I'm good to go.
Het Tack if you don't mind and you do show, would you bring an extra 15-22 mag? I was running some movement cover drills with my neighbor and a round hung up in the mag and I just pryed it out and drove on. I think I may have screwed up the feed lips cause I've had a few failure to feeds since then where the bolt bent the brass in two and I've never had jams in that rifle. I'll try to pick up one locally but if I can't I don't want to lose due to a shitty mag.
Yes, I'll do my best to remember.
.........and be there.....
..............on time.
Well the excuses start now,bad mags and we have not even fired around.Shit "doc" you are supposed to be the doctor,no lab coat??? As for the pygmy showing up that would be like finding a snowball in hell!!!
Asking for a spare mag ain't an excuse. When you say "we haven't fired a round" I assume you will be shooting at 200 also?
Nawh, doc I have only my dads old squirrel rifle that has been in my gun safe for21 yrs.have not shot it in over25yrs.Imight try it at 50 if ihave time to get it out an check the sights!
So a weapon with no perceivable recoil moved the pin top...
This has to be incorrect.
Any body want a side bet on the 200 yard shoot ? I'll take Rumbler to win for $100 ! :chinscratch::buttkick::yup:
He's to busy practicing to weigh pin tops !;)
Okay now we just need a 9 ounce rifle so I can get Jafar to STFU.
Got home and had an hour or so to re-sight the rifle at 200 yards. It was a little windy so I am not totally where I want to be. I got it on paper after dialing the scope WAY up to much and had to come back down. After getting on paper I did try the pin tops at 200. I had em on the top of my target holder and managed to hit a few. My neighbor ( that is actually a better .22 long range shooter than me, but was having a bad day) said "man I think you are hitting the wood and it's knocking them off" so we put up some virgin beer cans. This was not a one shot one kill but I managed to shut him up. Dead coors can at 200 yards at dusk and my neighbors berm is under the treeline. Plus the can is a lot harder to see than the white pin tops.
I did spend the time re-sighting my rifle from 100 yards to 200. I may not win but I will show up and try giving it my best. I've got an idea. How about you show up and shoot against me at 200 sir! I hear your gums flapping all the way over in Jackson county. Perhaps you should show up, put up or STFU!
At 200 you can barely see the impact on the pins but it did knock them off the stand. 200 with a fixed 4X scope is a pretty challenging shot, at least for me and my old eyes. I had no jams so I should be GTG! I will show and represent! The floor is open gentlemen, all comers are welcomed to step up and shoot at 200!
Dang. I never thought of that. I usually just gather up a hand full of 12ga shotgun shell hulls. :dunno:
Just teasing, Doc. Anyone who has never earnestly tried shooting small at (proportionately) long range with a .22LR can have no real understanding of just how friggin difficult it is to do consistently.
And I love your attitude about the whole thing; lets just show up and do the best we can do. I'm with you 110% on that. I might not hit a single damned one of them, but it won't be because of a lack of sincere effort and (such as it is) applied skill.
On the off chance there is a set of eyes . . or maybe even a one-eyed sneaky snake, reading this I wan to 'splain somethin.
I use the Savage MKII as a trainer for the Remmy 700P because - with the right ammo - it works EXACTLY on a two to one scale to duplicate the performance. Get that?
100 with the .22 = 200 with the .308.
200 with the .22 = 400 with the .308.
300 with the .22 = 600 with the .308.
When is the last time you (in the generic sense) hit the "x" consistently at 400 yards with your .308?
See what I am getting at? It is not negative, my point is that it takes a damned high level of skill to do well. You can spend $12,000 on a custom rifle and optic and if you don't have the other necessary skills you might as well be shooting a slingshot your 6-year old made for you. ;)
Actually I never said anything about not wanting restrictions on equipment. You wont find that in my post history. I did say I was glad we could go prone or sitting. But yea, bring whatever, I'll show and shoot to the best of my ability! Glad to hear more shooters will show and shoot at 200. :-) but yea no restrictions sounds fine to me, no more bullshit ammo restrictions, I can run at full mag capacity. Suits me. I think anything is fair in a firefight.
I don't have any high dollar custom stuff but I'll run what I brung. I shoot a lot of .22 cause it's cheap. I haven't shot bowling pins but three times and I'm trying to get better. However I've shot a lot of .22 and have learned that folks can make better shots than they thought were possible thanks to my buddy than talked about shooting flys at 50 yards then loaned me his rifle. Since then I've shot thumbtacks at 50 ,cut cards on edge at 20 and we are going to try to light matches this weekend. When I shoot I'm not shooting against anyone but myself. But I will show and give it my best effort and hope to improve. I welcome all shooters at any challenge with .22 rifles. I will be glad to try anything you guys can throw at me and I will enjoy the heck out of shooting the challenge, win or loose.
Damn . Doc I could have sworn you said boo when I brought up magazine restrictions . But none the Less I've never claimed to be anything but a average shooter at best . I've been to every pin match and the two times I won I donated the money back to pay for first time shooters to shoot for free . I believe you shot for free your first time . JMW4570 donated his winnings as did my Son in law for the same purpose . Most of us shoot because we enjoy it . Is it possible that you are taking all this Internet bullshit to seriously ? I mean if it's not fun why bother. As always your opinion my vary.
No brother we are good! I said boo to the fact I thought it was gonna be a rifle shoot challenge next time and the response was if we can't do the same thing shooting at bowling pins with pistols at 10 yards then I don't want to play and the rifle shoot is just the secondary BS match. My point was I wanted to mix it up, adding various rifles at various ranges. Sorry for the confusion and for any perceived insult. But I do think mag restrictions are BS as I stated in another post. I vote for no restrictions on capacity or anything. Run what ya brung or get something more competitive. I thought you brought up position restrictions, and I commented that I was glad prone and sitting were good. When possible I go prone cause I'm more accurate and I'm a smaller target. YMMV. And I've only been to three pin matches so I'm still learning those ropes. That being said, I did feel like you threw down the gauntlet betting $100 against me and also with your additional post saying I was too busy practicing to weigh the pins. That is why I invited you to join the match with myself and rumbler. I like a shooter that will get out of his comfort zone and try NEW things. That's why I joined Talon and why I enjoy shooting with you guys. Y'all teach me new limits to things I've never tried to shoot and why I like shooting with you guys. I don't like being the best shooter in the group. I like competing against guys that are better shooters than me. It hones the edge sir.
Lol if you shoot rifles anything like you shoot pistols then you will be formidable competition. I'll do offhand against you sir if you will concede the 10 round bullshit limit. And damn I'm under attack now by all the awesome shooters. However I will be damn honored to show and shoot against you guys. I may not win but I'll damn sure give it my best effort!:salute:
I don't know who (else) noticed last week but JMW4570 was on fire. But not because he was shooting particularly fast. It was because he wasn't missing often when he fired.
Here is the fast for you; firing five . . or six rounds, is faster than firing 35 . . or 36 rounds.
Y'all need to trust me on this, I am an old guy. ;)
I agree which is why I say if a man is confident with his choice of weapons, however limited the capacity, he should not be afraid to shoot against anyone else, regardless of their choice of weapons whatever the round capacity. Downloading the mags to make it FAIR isn't real world shooting IMHO. If a guy is that good he should step to the line with whatever he brings and shoot against anyone else that brings their choice of weapons to the fight/match.
I really don't care what you shoot, how you shoot, etc. I was trying to get some guys to shoot offhand cause that's probably the hardest position for me to shoot well, next to sitting (and a bad back can make that interesting when a muscle spasm kicks in or a disc starts to bulge). To be honest, I believe going prone to shoot 50 yards should make you want to turn in your man card. If you are hitting cans at 200, where is the challenge at 50? No offense meant here, well.. maybe a little. 200 yards is a completely different game but I and others have hit the gong with pistols at that distance.
Again, I reiterate, I was just trying to make it challenging, induce a little stress, and get you guys (me too) out of your comfort zone of full magazines and completely supporting shooting positions. That's all. Embrace the suck ladies.
I will gladly shoot next to anyone who wants to shoot the same position as I do. Just a warning, if you are all bedded down prone on your air mattress in your air-conditioned gillie suit with your laser optic'd belt-fed, suppressed 22, don't get mad if you accidentally get stepped on.
See you guys Thursday. Jim
I look forward to shooting against you sir. You have proven to be one hell of a shooter. I hope this discussion doesn't get twisted because that is not the way I intended the discussion to go. And I've been stepped on plenty by you shooters. You guys are good which is why I continue to show. I'll try shooting against anyone in any position. No air mattress, gillie suit, or laser optic'd belt fed weapon required. Just real world shit. Do you guys run C4 or three gun with your AR's downloaded to 6 rounds? Just asking cause I haven't been able to make one yet?
You guys have clearly proven you are better pistol marksman than me. It has been proven in the shoots. However I still feel, that if you guys think low capacity weapons are the bomb and mag changes are great and accuracy trumps rounds than you should be able to triumph in the competitions by showing that against all competitors. There is a reason all agencies have gone to hi cap mag fed weapons. I think the 6 round limit is not a realistic test in a real world situation. Nor is a dictated shooting position. I try to use whatever will help me win the fight. Just my humble opinion.
Heck, Thats I all I had planned to do! This ain't three gun or C4. There are lots of shooting sport 'games' and each has different rules. I'm glad we have all these options now. The Talon Bowling League was supposed to be fun - I was trying to setup a standard set of rules (per Rumblers suggestion) so we could compare results. Still not sure how Rumbler et.al. is going to score someone shooting a pistol against someone prone with a rifle. But that's not my problem.
I was trying the get some competitive juices flowing and get some folks other than old guys to turn out. If it takes a full magazine to make folks happy, well then come one, come all. :poke::poke::poke:
If my eye's were better, I'd try a 22 revolver at 50... Hmmm.... Wait a minute... Maybe... nah, I'll stick to my plan this week.
And with all due respect, I'm not trying to insult anyone or be an ass so I hope no one takes it that way. I have the utmost respect for you guys as shooters and as gentlemen. I'm just throwing in my two cents.
Epilogue.... This whole shitstorm started when I mentioned shooting shotgun shells (which we do around here) and Rumbler invited ( froggy and shit) me to shoot against him at 200. I accepted his challenge. I may not win but I will show and try my best. I've simply voiced my opinion cause this is CCGF and I thought a man could express his opinion on this forum. Hopefully no one has taken this personally because that is certainly not my intention. I have the utmost respect for all the shooters I've had the honor of shooting against! Looking forward to seeing you guys again on Thursday night!
