I've been looking at them and the price is the only reason keeping me from pulling the trigger on them. Do they work that much better than cheaper alternatives?

Easy. Most mag pouches don't fit AK mags or 308 mags or anything other than a USGI 30 round (or perhaps a magpul 30 round) mag worth a fruck. Also, due to the polymer side of the pouch, the AK mags locking lug for example doesn't rip a hole in the pouch.Say the $8 pouches that you can get from AR500 for instance

SB introduced me to the taco mag pouches. I've used a lot if different pouches - these have no equal. Try them; you'll agree.
