That's a great link. Anyone who has been to the Combat Trauma class has learned the importance of wearing plates and avoiding the extremely high percentage of fatalities that come from damage to that part of the body.
The guy in the bottom pic is a Marine wearing an OTV. His plates aren't improper, it's an illusion made my the style of the carrier. His plates are exactly where the guy's are above him. Find the jugular notch and measure down to the top of the carrier on both; almost the same distance.

The beatings will continue until morale improves!
"We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-bitches, we're going to rip out their living goddamned guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun cocksuckers by the bushel-fucking-basket. War is a bloody, killing business. You've got to spill their blood, or they will spill yours." - George S. Patton
I measured my nipples. I need the bigger plates.
Or smaller nipples.
When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always.
Jafar, is curved known to be more protective than flat? Otherwise a flat back plate saves some cash for a wee bit of comfort and no protective advantages.

I can't prove this first hand, and I know some around these parts don't approve of my understanding of physics; but it would seem that a flat plate that receives rounds at a 90 degree angle would offer less protection that one with a slightly curved. I guess that's just my educated guess.
Nipple spread is a measurement I've never taken. This is gonna be interesting.

I know that bullets striking vehicles at an angle can deflect, and ones striking at 90 degrees do not. That's not even armored, so my bet is the physics would be the same.
