I agree with the steel, which is what I have as the ceramic is too fragile and I know depts who issue it and then do not perform required follow up X-Rays.

However the AR500 rigs I have seen are MUCH heavier than mine and I went with AP46100D with Linex for spall protection. Tested at Aberdeen proving grounds and very interesting open source US govt PDF on same.

Dont get me wrong AR500 will probably work, but the weight will kill you.
Thanks for the heads up now....After I've already ordered AR500 plates

Outside of eBay, I haven't found a vendor who sells the 46100d steel plates. And I can't get away from the fear that I'm not exactly guaranteed that the guy selling 46100D on eBay is actually selling legit stuff...with all the scammers on eBay...I've been sold counterfeit apple products, counterfeit otter boxes, etc...difference is I didn't have to get shot in the heart to learn it was fake.

same can be said about the AR500. It's cheap enough that you can test it also it is not a restricted material. Any shop that cuts AR500 plates probably has a WJ machine that wil cut AP46100D

I can show you a piece of 1/2 inch steel that looks like AR500 with a .30 cal hole in it next C4 if you like... As always YMMV, but AR is NOT AP.

Right, I get that. I'm at least comfortable enough with a mainstream business like ar500armor.com that I'll get the real thing though.

No, but like you said, anybody with a water jet could do it. I totally get the weight thing. How much does one of your plates weigh? I'm torn.

How would one get something fluroscoped around here? I happened to find a pair of 1993 mfg stand-alone lvl 4 ceramic plates, but the only way to know if they have been compromised is to scope them.
