Thought you would never ask. I have a whole book full of "experiments" with all the details, that you are welcome to browse through as long as you keep in mind they were developed and tested in my gun.

With that said, let me share the load used for the longest range .308 kill shot in military history performed by a serving sniper:

7.62x51 MK316 MOD 0 Special Ball, Long Range
    MV: 2580 F/S
    Chamber pressure:52,000 PSI
Spec calls for 0.899 MOA at 1000 meters, in the issue M24 Sniper Weapon System.

960 meter supersonic range in this system at seal level.

175-gr Sierra MatchKing HPBT bullets, Federal Match cases, Federal Gold Medal Match primers.
    41.745gr of IMR 4064 powder.

. . oh, and remember that a meter is 3.3 feet.
I'd rather be lucky than good, but I'd rather KNOW I'm good than HOPE to get lucky.

Varget ,Winchester 748, IMR 4064, IMR 4895 those are my favorite powders . I have better luck getting tight groups when I use them. I only shoot 300 yards or so some of the guys on here shoot a lot further out than that their results my be deferent .
Luck is the phenomena created when Preparation meets Opportunity .

Most the Longrange shooters I shoot with use Varget, IMR 4320, IMR 8208BR, VV N140, VV N150, VV N540 in .308. The ones shooting 6mm, .243, are using, Varget, VV N160, H4831sc. One of the things they look for are powders not so temperature sensitive.
