I'm sure others will agree... these are the best, if not among the best, classes you will ever take. It sure as hell will be the best social time on the range you've ever had.

I contacted Robert Keller yesterday 4/5/18 to see if the 21-22 class was still a go, and the answer was short and sweet "Heck ya bro"

Advanced class was very good. Even in a freakin thunderstorm! Really brought out what ones weaknesses are in a practical way. Bob blended the important stuff, practical, proven, and built with successive drills.

Can we get some details on the class? I was at the Area 6 match that weekend, or I may have been tempted to attend.

The low altitude airplane jump while engaging targets at random distances and the Australian rappel while shooting with mag changes was just a starter. I'm getting too old for this stuff!! The rest is secret squirrel stuff that I'm sworn to secrecy on.

Bob's perspective on training appears at the surface to be very basic, BUT is based on what works for him/his unit and what is proven in the field - not what someone thought up as a cool tactical drill with no/limited 'experience' in the field. My interpretation of his training; "Everything has a place, but if you can't get on the target quickly and accurately... and stay engaged until the threat ceases, it doesn't matter." We start and end on 'ready up drills' everything builds on those for both pistol and rifle. The advanced class does this as well - and we burned alot of ammo on it (not a complaint) while Bob coached us, then expanded on strong and off hand work, static and moving (strong and off hand), switching back and forth, then engaging multiple targets in various drills, distances, and configurations. He says you ought to be just as proficient with strong and off hand (rifle and pistol) as you never know what you might encounter. Most everything is on the clock to induce some level of stress, and there is a natural competitiveness when running against each other on drills as well. He said to get accurate then speed up till you aren't, then slow back till you are, and repeat until the speed comes... but never sacrifice accuracy for speed.

I learned that I my tight 2 point sling hold severely limits my transitions and have changed my sling layout. I learned my off hand work and moving work needs A LOT of work. I learned that as you speed up, you lose focus on the basics and missing sucks no matter how fast you pull the trigger. Several in the class ran out of ammo in the end. We did a lot of shooting.

My take away is this. Bob isn't a bragger or thinks too highly of himself. Bob is a craftsman, pure and simple A craftsman knows how to use his tools and most of art is practiced by practicing the fundamentals over and over until they become second nature - then staying on top of the skills as they are perishable. I know guys like that in woodworking, metalworking, blacksmithing, and other crafts. They are amazing to watch and learn from. Bob has a heart for and a skill set that he wants to share with Law Enforcement to help make them better, he also doesn't mind teaching civilians how to use the tools as well. Master the basics.

AB: based on your experience, I'd recommend the advanced class for you if you wanted to take one of Bob's courses. But if you have some questions, give me a call. Jim

I’ve got a long way to go when it comes to my skill with a gun and my tactical knowledge. I’m finding that when I focus on the basics; really solidify those foundational levels, I make the greatest improvement. The stuff all over IG is mostly just gun porn. It’s quick, flashy, catches your eye and leaves you with nothing. My goal in this medium is to encourage some thought and debate, and share some reality. As an instructor, my goal is to master the art of teaching others, not magnify myself and seek praise. Snort those basics my friends. #adictedtothebasics #backtobasics #basictraining #firearmfundamentals #guntraining #firearmstraining #firearmsinstructor #handguntraining #rifletraining #pistoltraining #focusonthebasics #alittlealot #gunfightingnotshooting #trainingnottrained #masterthefundamentals #masterthebasics #warriormindset #combatmindset #tacticaltraining #policetraining
