Anyone here cast and loaded this?
I cast for 45 acp.
Have you ever used those molds?
No. I need to research what it is.
Thats a pretty famous bullet for bullseye and NRA matches. Accurate and punches a nice clean hole. I have shot a bunch of them but never cast them. I am sure i have box of them around if you need some to play with. Jim
I was actually reading an article by Wilson where he and Hackathorn recommended it as a 1911 carry load presumably for reliability.I will have to dig it back up to see the actual load data they used.
I can see the reliability aspect. I doubt it would expand, maybe tumble, but sure make a heck of a drainage hole. I think normal velocties for that bullet range from about 800 to 950 fps, the more accurate loads were at the lower end of that range. I remember back in the day some recommended loading 38 cal 148 wadcutters backwards to encourage expansion. Those were lower velocity loads as well. Cheers.
Yeah, their critique of modern FMJ is that most is loaded too hot. Max 850 is what they suggested. For cycling reasons.
just saw a article ,man used 4.0 grns of bullseye @658 fps one ragged hole at 25 yrds.I am going to find some to try myself
