Back plates are for chumps...I learned in Blackhawk Down that I can plan not to get shot in the back...
I was clearly joking.
Wearing a plate carrier without a back plate is ten times more uncomfortable and burdensome than when you wear front and back.
That makes a lot of sense. More lower back strain.
I ordered a carrier and plates this weekend. I went with this carrier..

They were running a 4th of July sale so I got it for around $170. And I went with these plates..

Didn't know you were gonna become a dealer Dale. Sorry bout that.
Nice rig there Doc.
BTW, reading the instructions for ordering the carrier I saw this..
Measure your chest around the widest part (usually at nipple height)
So what do you measure?
Never mind. No homo.
Why don't we do a group buy of ceramic plates? Seems like steel is dangerous with the spalling that I have seem on Youtube videos. The weight of them seems to be significantly more than ceramic. Does anyone have any input on this other than watching YouTube videos?
I am ready for incoming fire....:hiding:
Simmoag.
Anti Spall test of Line-x Paxcon. I think Spall/Fragmentation has been delt with well.
BTW, this will not be a typical group buy. Whichever vendor we choose ( http://www.ar500armor.com/ or http://www.thetargetman.com/) you will be able to select anything they have.
We will need to get a minimum order, and we should be lower than their online prices, even with tax, but don't expect it to be 20%.
If we go with thetargetman you can get Ceramic, UHMWPE or AR500 steel, as well as targets and stands.
If we go with AR500 armor, they have med kits and MRE's and lots of other stuff.
I might be up for soft plates at some point.
Protection from thrown 1911's. Weight and conceal-ability under clothing. There was a First Spear vest with soft plates in it at the shoot Sunday morning.
There is another option, speed plates. They are level lll A but stop a shitload of different rounds. I use level llllA stand alone plates.
Well, honestly, some people are preparing for a day and time where ordering more gear will not be a possibility. Steel can take multiple hits. Most ceramic is combat ineffective after the first hit. Also, ceramic plates shatter if you drop them at the right angle, which is a lot easier than you think. For effectiveness and duration, I personally would, and have, chosen steel.
I agree, ceramic plates are all of the above. I forgot to mention that I also have steel plates and plan on getting speed plates as well. Load out mission specific.
Okay, so are we ready to do this now or what?
WAIT! You already are!
And you missed that opportunity?
I'm biding my time, being selective in when I play my club card.
When are we doing the group buy? I would be interested in side plates and front/back plates.
I say go with AR500. They use the PaxCon coating, they sell lots of other stuff by well known brands like hsgi and such...
Doc, just Google speed plates and click on Galls. Or not.
What is the thickness and dimensions of the AR500 plates?
I think .25 in?
Shit balls, let's get this humping forward, shall we?
