I've shot the shit out of my AR500 targets with all my weapons at CLOSER than recommended ranges and they have held up well. I bought a plate carrier and plates to have the best protection available to me for the long term. I'll gladly tote the extra 2 pounds for the knowledge that I'm wearing as good as it gets that I can afford.
