Ok.. one (1) 10x12 swimmer cut AP plate with Linex is 6.4 lbs. I think they are 1/4 inch thick, did not measure that this time, but memory tells me they were 1/4 inch then another 1/4 for linex, so just about 1/2 inch thick total.
I dont use the side plates, for reasons discussed previously. So my plates add 12.8lbs to my loadout.
Ok, so that's 1.1 pounds lighter that each AR500 plate which weighs 7.5 lbs - 2.2 lbs more for the load out as a whole. A loaded AR mag weighs about 1 pound for reference. Pounds do add up and if all else was equal id love the lighter option.
really.. thats all... Dayum.. the AR500 rig I picked up a couple of weeks ago weighed a ton and it was a stripped down carrier....maybe his was thicker ??? Are you getting 1/4 or 1/2
So if weight is not really an issue all you have to wory about is penetration ;-)
I guess as long as its not soaked yellow pages, trash can lids and duct tape it's better than nothing !!!
Unless the AB ceramic plate fairy pays you a visit.
well good.. I think that was a good discussion and everyone can feel better about their choices.
