Tack, you remember that suggestion I gave you about finding a golf partner that time for a tournament? You think they'll like to go kayaking and camping?

Smore of my DI@K.
That's high speed.
Is that like a platform to stand on in the middle?
Must have been a wet spring out west. Never seen the Rio Grande so green and lush.
For one of these. The Federales are tough out there.

We're having bacon for breakfast on this trip
I've seen people standing in them, I can barely get in or out without falling in the river
:hrmmm:
Ok let's do this thing...
Attachment 11371Sounds like a good time, but I only paddle to fish;)
When I was a kid we ate fish 3 nights a week, but hardly ever went fishing. Daddy had a acre of Catalpa trees laid out on a grid just like citrus or peaches. Even irrigated.
Dad kept every carpenter, plumber and electrician in town stocked with bait and they in turn kept us in fish.
Trip #2 , kayak btb , one mile out. Cut bait and hammerheads.
We decided that last week's trip was so fun we'd do it again. When we got to the river it was down a good 5-6 feet from last week, the current was a lot slower and there were tons more snags to navigate. We made the first 1/3 of the trip it was nice, slight overcast, light wind, there were tons of sandbars so we stopped and ate lunch. As soon as we were done it started raining a little, still not bad, kept us cool and the breeze started working in our direction. Well it didn't take long and we started hearing thunder and it was moving our way. We ended up power paddling the last 1/3 of the trip, by the time we made the landing my shoulders and back were burning and I was damn glad to get out of the boat and the river. We hadn't been 5 minutes getting the boats in the truck and heading up the road and the bottom fell out rain thunder lightning the whole nine yards. It sure made all that pain and effort seem worth it.
We sure need to get a trip planned up, but either way we're going to hit the river somewhere most weekends so if you want in on it lemme know.
I was looking at a kayak tonight at Walmart. A lifetime Tamarack Angler... anyone know anything about them?

SHTW just got a Dolphin 10' open top fishing kayak. I've never been a sit on top fan but this thing is nice...

That one at Walmart was a 10' sit on top. Has two rod holders, a rod outrigger, two dry storage compartments, gear tie down front and back, like yours Outlaw, and comes with the paddle... for $257.
Didn't get it only because I was worried that it may just be a cheap POS.

All but two of ours are Wallyworld specials. They hold up fine and I don't get indigestion when one scrapes bottom on rough concrete or bounces off a tree at full boogie because I couldn't turn hard enough, we aren't afraid to to take them places I wouldn't dream of taking a $1000 hand laid fiberglass boat.
Our thought getting the first ones was "We'll get cheap boats, if we like it we'll buy something nicer" we did buy nicer boats but only slightly, they're cheap boats with nicer features than our first ones.
Also we bought those first boats 6 years ago, they've been hundreds of miles down the rivers and in little forest ponds and we have never had a problem with one, we even let the grandkids use them when they're here and they are some tough on the toys boys.
Outlaw, here's a good site I use, it even works on my phone. Sounds like you could have used it this morning.

Sounds like y'all had a good time. I need to take mine out.

I think the authors may have taken a little dramatic licence on this story or they are not the "seasoned watermen" they claimed to be.
Hey Duffus! Did you catch the date?
"Monday, December 24, 2012 7:02pm"
You remember the fall of '12?
Yes sir I do and I made the trip from Piney to Mack Lake that same month with our Chihuahua in the boat. Probably in the same week that they went, that was the week we bought our property out there.
Mostly it's the shit I remember that bothers me not the shit I forget.......
Was going to try to put together something for this weekend but the weather is going to be iffy, anyone want to try and plan something for the 24th and/or 25th ?
Sorry I missed these trips. Would love to do a river trip with y'all. Will have to include a 7 hour drive from South Florida!
I finally got some free time on Father's day to put the yak in at Shell Point and did some exploring around oyster bay. I'm planning on doing a trip here http://www.springsfever.org/spr/Shepherd.html soon. You have to put in at Wakulla beach and go when the tide is rising or high.
Goose creek is awesome when it says:
That is probably an understatementQuote:
- Swimming -not recommended
They ain't tryin' to fuck with nobody.
Then by all means hop on in, it's beautiful clear spring water.
Just picked up another 8' kayak from Walmart for $119 with paddle.
Flip it over it'll float better LOL
I tried uploading this pic several times. I even flipped the pic and saved it. Every time it shows up upside down. Smart phone technology is not my specialty. I'm sure some kid can figure it out for me
Took it down to Shell Point today and it was very windy and choppy. It is definitely better suited for calm water. Will have to get it out on the river and see how it does.
