Flat or curved......flat.........or curved...........
Deadline?
I will take 4 of the item #11 AR500-ASC-CV-BU (10x12 curved Linex build up plates). Do y'all have any of those Gerber knives?
And I think you meant 6...2 for me...right?
Great question.
Do ifaks count toward the goal?
LOL, no baby food for me. I hate I didn't get in on the knife group buy. In decision sucks!
I'll trade you mine for a plate.
The 'back' armor the offer is the same stuff except they offer this:

So is the curved plate necessary for the rear or is flat just as comfortable?
Or for the front for that matter.....in theory "curved" sounds more comfy but the plate is 12x10 inches...
My torso is more like 18x24, so what is it curving around? I am thinking flat would be just as comfortable. Jafar, AB, what say you plate experts?
Without the curve, I can imagine that going prone would hurt like a mother.
I can't see how, no worse than the floor?
Mine are curved, mine are comfortable. Is it a huge price difference between straight and curved? I just can't see a good reason. I would also think that curved would have a better energy dispersion like a bell. Let me call my ballistic unicorn and confirm.
Mine also are curved and comfortable. If you are probably just going to wear them on date night or at the range.. flat will be fine. If TSHTF, you will be happy to have them.
If price is the same ..curved... also shooter or swimmer cut.. if you do not, you will see why very quickly.
Shooter cut is a big must. Maybe curved for front flat for back to save cash. I'm cheap and poor.
Shoot me with what? I trust the plates. If you buy me a set, I'll let you shoot me in them.
In.
just make the armor out of bowling pins, you'd be safe from Dale forever :D oh, you'd need a pin armor helmet too
I found this online and thought it might be helpful for you guys/gals.

That's a great link. Anyone who has been to the Combat Trauma class has learned the importance of wearing plates and avoiding the extremely high percentage of fatalities that come from damage to that part of the body.
The guy in the bottom pic is a Marine wearing an OTV. His plates aren't improper, it's an illusion made my the style of the carrier. His plates are exactly where the guy's are above him. Find the jugular notch and measure down to the top of the carrier on both; almost the same distance.
I measured my nipples. I need the bigger plates.
Or smaller nipples.
Jafar, is curved known to be more protective than flat? Otherwise a flat back plate saves some cash for a wee bit of comfort and no protective advantages.
Nipple spread is a measurement I've never taken. This is gonna be interesting.
I can't prove this first hand, and I know some around these parts don't approve of my understanding of physics; but it would seem that a flat plate that receives rounds at a 90 degree angle would offer less protection that one with a slightly curved. I guess that's just my educated guess.
:aaaaargh:UNICORNS UNICORNS :aaaaargh:
I know that bullets striking vehicles at an angle can deflect, and ones striking at 90 degrees do not. That's not even armored, so my bet is the physics would be the same.
I hear ya. Now what are the odds of a purely perpendicular round impact in a combat or range environment? One in a billion?
I'd love to see an ar500 plate with a buildup coat take a round at 45 degrees. Wonder if the coating would capture the deflection.
