Talon Members Open Range Day 6/16/2013

Will be held on the NEW RANGE.

This is not the Grand Opening. Think of it more like a test drive.

If you have a sun shade of some kind bring it. The shelters have not been constructed yet.

I have two or three "tent" shelters, but that is far - far - from enough.

We have asphalt millings spread on the road in, and on the bottoms of the bays.

Bring your rifles. 100 and 200 yards WITH NO SHADE will be available. Too.

    . . . oh, and if you have a portable shooting bench . . . .

I'll try and get over to the temporary range with the red tractor and grab the tables . . . . but I seldom get that kind of time. Range opens at 9:00AM, but I've been there as early as 7:15 so I could get in some practice time and found people stacked up at the gate waiting to get in.
I'd rather be lucky than good, but I'd rather KNOW I'm good than HOPE to get lucky.

The new range is absolutely incredible. The high berms actually attenuate the sound and each bay gives a lot of privacy and security - very safe.

Just did a Talon class yesterday and it was awesome.

The whole place is like a "Shooter's Theme Park" like Disneyworld for shooters. Just amazing.

The new range is . . . . big. Walking back and forth from end to end in 150 degree heat with 198% humidity, repeatedly, is NOT a pleasant experience.

And no, I didn't have a golf cart. I had a tractor with forks on the front because I failed in my attempts to levitate all the steel targets, target frames, picnic tables, and porta-pooper, from the old range to the new one.
I'd rather be lucky than good, but I'd rather KNOW I'm good than HOPE to get lucky.

When you enter, you are no longer gut punched by the smell of cherry deodorizer, poop and ammonia.

Hey - once you get past the ripe shit smell, they make a pretty good sauna. Some of 'em are hot enough to be steam rooms.

    We call them "The Cooler".

When you start to get really dizzy, then it's time to get out - don't need no stinkin' timer!

Can't wait 'till they get the air-conditioned bathrooms going....

. . and showers too. Don't forget the showers.

Yes, I can easily visualize me sitting in the shower in my boots and duty belt. It is a scary vision, but I'm cool!

I am not volunteering to test it...

And what is is with port-a-potties; is there some law that says a freshly cleaned one must have the TP soaked with piss on the first use? It is bad enough having to fight the flys to use the damn thing...
