I guessed less than half.
When I despair, I remember that all through history the ways of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they can seem invincible, but in the end they always fall. Think of it--always.
At almost 56, and the youngest of five siblings (a couple of whom were flower power-types in the day), I remember seeing Woodstock on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite and knowing what was going down. In the late '80s, I became friends with Lou Yank (who retired to FL), the Chief of Police of Monticello, NY during Woodstock, who helped organize food, showers, and emergency lodgings for the thousands of people that overflowed into his little town, which happened to be nearby the event. He told me that he literally didn't arrest a single person for anything other than theft or violence. He said that as far as he was concerned, naked folks and drug users weren't hurting anyone, and it was an extraordinary time requiring him to take a step back from the usual approach to law enforcement. Lou was the right guy at the right time for that situation, no doubt.
