View Full Version : Bugout Bonanza??

Whats up, CCGF?

With every small thing that we do in shooting or training, you must crawl, walk and run before achieving the best proficiency. Rehearsal and practice are absolutely essential in all things, like sex and wearing high heels. Most of us have a bugout plan, but have you ever practiced it? If not, why do we give so much attention to the small things and yet neglect the things that require the most rehearsal?

So here’s my idea: The Bugout Bonanza.

Torreya State Park is approximately one hour west of Tallahassee, and offers Primitive Camping sites. This may not be the most idyllic bugout location, and I know we all have our own planned out. The park, however, will serve as an adequate "training" area. The park has amenities such as free firewood and accessible water. There is no chopping of trees or disturbing the natural environment off the trails, so no building of shelter, like you may have to in a real situation. This is only the crawl stage. Participants can practice their fire craft and water procurement and sanitation. Also, no firearms are allowed in state parks.

On the way to Torreya, participants can use the opportunity to individually assess their readiness. Gear, vehicles, and time spent getting out of town can all be researched and evaluated. The best route to the link-up point (Parking lot of Torreya) and be assessed from each individual home or work.

In other words, the Bonanza would progress into several stages.

1. Individual planning and preparedness leading up to the event.
2. Day of the event, a “catastrophe” happens at a pre-designated time. Participants begin “bugging out”.
3. Participants make their way to the link-up point along individual routes.
4. Headcount and accountability of participants.
5. Coordination with State Park officials. Passes purchased for each participant.
6. Hike to camping site with packs and/or gear.
7. Set up camp site/training (Land nav? Patrolling?)
8. Overnight stay.
9. 8AM wake-up. Second day optional.

The cost for this event will be negligible. Gas to and from event + 10$ entry to park (I think).

Input on times/dates coming soon or can be discussed.

Informal training environment. Best training value is individual assessment of equipment, skills and abilities.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thanks,

-OM :usa:

Great. If we can get enough trainers/classes together, we can spend the day round robin through them all.

The drop off behind the Gregory House is dramatic to those used to a flat Florida;the pic doesn't do it justice.

We would be drawing water from and camping along the save river.

While we may not be intending it as a paramilitary event, could it be construed as such by a liberal hack prosecutor?

specifically regarding "drill"

Being as we would only be practicing bushcraft and preparedness, and not in armed drill or parade, I reckon we will be safe. But let your conscience be your guide.

Really? I don’t believe so. The only exception is transporting to or from a range I think.

i was under the impression that due to pre-emption, the state statute, specifically 790.025, ruled over any state regulations enacted by FWC or florida department of state.

I don’t know, my friend. Its worth calling about, thats for sure. I think it would be wise to err on the side of caution, however.

strap up

Gotcha. So concealed carry only. According to the email, the law does not provide for open carry or the carry of a rifle.

Something I've always wondered about is the carry of firearms while fishing or camping.
I've had several people tell me different things about line h in subsection 3.
"(3) LAWFUL USES.—The provisions of ss. 790.053 and 790.06 do not apply in the following instances, and, despite such sections, it is lawful for the following persons to own, possess, and lawfully use firearms and other weapons, ammunition, and supplies for lawful purposes:"
"(h) A person engaged in fishing, camping, or lawful hunting or going to or returning from a fishing, camping, or lawful hunting expedition;"

I've been told that means that persons without a ccp can open carry while fishing, ive been told that you still need a ccp to carry, but it doesn't have to be concealed, i had one guy tell me it meant a non ccp holder could carry concealed (cant say i believed that guy, he didn't seem like a reliable source of info.) while fishing or camping. anyone have a better idea as to what the line really means? any LEOs care to weigh in on how you would handle the situation should you encounter a person carrying w/o a permit while fishing? is it a situation where its location is the deciding factor?

I would like to point out that there is no prohibition against alcohol at the campsites. Its gonna be a good time, my friends.

September 29th, 2015, 03:27 PM
fishing only needs a licence if your useing a reel or a boat. canepole bank fishing is completely legal without any licence. ebt and foodstamps count as a fishing licence in florida. just saying, its not as simple as you just tried to make it.

I only ask questions out of legit honest curiosity. I actually want to know the legal bounds of carrying firearms in the woods.
Not having used a compass much, but having carried lots of stuff, I'd say I'd make a good cooler transport specialist...
But that's beside the point considering no ones going to invite the guy that might try to spear a bear.

You guys need to do your paramilitary thing and get it out of your system. This way...my sylabus will not dissapoint.

Identification of game trails and trap setting.
Bush hooks, trot lines, and net running.
Animal skinning, processing and cooking.
Preservation and cooking of game animals.
Woods navigation
Edible plants and medicines
Dendrology 101-- know your wood, and forest types
What is considered an inappropriate touch and what is not in a cabin environment. BCC

For the more rugged....base camp, and lean-to construction with a night in the woods.

The ultimate bug out bag...which I believe I have.

All will be real time and not hypothetical. I will leave it as simple as that.

In.

I'm disappointed there is no mudding on highway tread tires on the syllabus though.

I am lost....are we now discussing 2 different events in this thread (OM's and Ike's)? I missed Jafar's orienteering class. I know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Other than that I don't remember shit from orienteering from scouts. I think I even had the orienteering merit badge.

Yeah I was a scout too but none of that would cut it in the land Nav class. Much harder than I expected!

Hey all.

Ive got the wheels turning on details of the event as we speak.

Roll call:

Who is in for mid October (while its still reasonably warm)?

Who is in for early November?

Roger up! Lets get this ball rolling.

(Also, I would be willing to contribute or run a land nav course. Also, I can issue a suggested gear list and a group meeting to go over BOBs.)

first trimester morning sickness/constant fatigue. She was pretty good with Tucker and Sadie, but this one has her hurtin. The doc gave her a script for something to help, but insurance doesn't cover it, so it'd be $400 and she would rather suffer out of principle. She started some other OTC meds today that should hopefully have the same effect.

Thanks for the concern.

Maybe you should make her some nice chicken soup...
