Got this note from a distributor.
H&R HAS ANNOUNCED THEY WILL NO LONGER BE MAKING SINGLE SHOT RIFLES/SHOTGUNS.

I would assume the info is the real deal.

The vendor also said they would be lowering prices to close them out. I'm going to post prices for a group buy as soon as I can.

1. This makes sense. They will still be selling New England Firearms I presume?

2. I want some rifle barrels!

The Handi-Rifle in 300 Blackout (threaded barrel/suppressor ready) is going to go for $240.33 OTD. (that is cheaper than Buds and PSA, BTW).

The only one in stock is this model:
72430

1. No idea. I can't seem to find it anywhere but in a terse email from one vendor.

2. Which ones?

It looks like barrels have to be sold by HR, and have to be fitted to your gun. I guess they are no Thompson Contender.

We do not sell additional barrels outright. All barrels must be factory fitted.

What does a 45/70 go for? Any with threaded barrels?

I can't find any 45/70's in stock. But I will keep looking.

If I do they go from about $20 more than the 300 ACC one to $110 more for the Buffalo Classic.

From the H&R site it does not look like they make a 45/70 with threaded barrel. BUT.. The handi rifle in Marlin 444 has a threaded barrel. Same price as the 300 ACC.

If you want I will look around and see if other vendors have the 45/70.

This is sad news. The H&R single shot 300BLK rocks.

Mine shoots slow 230gr just as well as it shoots hyper-fast 110's.

And it's tiny!! It's like . . . Tack Driver size! :P

Tack......wait till you see the 45-70. Safety guy refinished for me. Beautiful.
It is even getting a 50mm leupold.

I was playing with it last weekend with the Lever evolution rounds.............awesome. I was holding kill shots at 200yds.

Rumbler.......will a break action handle a Rumbler round?
years ago.....i was told that it would not

If only.................

A modern break-action like the H&R? Yes, absolutely.

The 45-70? In modern ones do not exceed the lever gun loads.

Not because they will blow up, but because the pins used to hold the halves together will stretch over time using hot-as-it-gets loads.

Something about the 45-70 . . . . I shoot the 425 grain hunter's supply laser cast lead at 1400~ FPS in my guide gun. It could be taken to almost 1800FPS before reaching max. But you gotta look at the math . . or shoot a very stable steel silhouette at 200 yards.

I shot a full size torso silhouette, after looking at the math, sitting on a very stable base at 200 yards. It knocked the target and the stand over. 1400 FPS is plenty, unless you need to stop an M1 Abrams. Then 1500FPS might be needed.

For the sake of Ike and myself, what kind of subsonic wickedness could we whip up?

FYI. DSH has a H&R AAC 300 blackout in the rack for $359 as of a couple minutes ago. Already threaded. Nice little gun.

A really really pointed 230gr bullet at 1040FPS.

I've got a bunch loaded if your guys want to try them out. It hits like a ton of friggin bricks !!!

. . or virtually any other combination of bullet / speed you want to put together. I've run 110grain Barnes TLS/LE subsonic and the bullets look like something from an advertising photo shoot; nasty wicked looking.

I really like my H&R handi in 300 BLK. Picked it up from Grab a Gun for 239+flat rate shipping of like $6. You may remember I posted the deal the day I bought it. Anyway - like Rumbler - I am glad I picked it up. It is the farm hunting gun for deer this season. Running 150 grain soft point at just over 1800 fps which is more than enough for our conditions. Accuracy is dead on. This particular model is a collaboration between H&R and AAC. Some complain the stock is a bit short but i think it is just cool. Flat top only with threaded barrel. The one thing to be aware of is that this gun does not come with a hammer extension so if you plan on dropping a scope on this, order the extension.

I also have a .357 mag H&R handi with a bull barrel. This is also a very accurate gun.

Last one to note is a 410 youth model that I bought for my son.

I would not sell any of these. If this news is true, i may have to pick up another one or two. Maybe in 222 or 223 or 308 or 45 Colt.

Sorry sir, let me clarify. I mean 45/70 subsonic wickedness.

Would there be a worry with excessive head space with size of this case loading subsonic? How much would you really lose by dropping to 45 LC to get the same ballistics?

Is it just a case that there is more of a selection of heavy bullets in the 458 dia?

Potentially 600 grain soft lead bullets at 1040~.

Kinda like getting hit by an elephant. With that much weight it don't have to be moving very fast to cause a whole shitload of hurt!

That could be done in a break action, but that I don't think that would cycle through through lever gun. Or have you already done this?

Naw. The dang projectile is too long for a lever gun. :(

You know what would be a hoot?

H&R changes their mind about stopping production because of a HUGE surge in sales.

Only if the poll adds up to 120% and has 3 options..and accepts multiple votes...

I've not read why Cerberus is shutting the line down. The wording of the notice was that H&R wouldn't make them any more, it wouldn't shock me if they re-branded under one of their other names.

They are a hell of a deal. I bought two of them in 300 BLK for Christmas presents . I like the little rifles so much I ordered one for myself. They come threaded 5/8 x 24 with a thread protector and a scope rail . They will make a hell of a truck / walk around the property gun in my opinion.

I've got an H&R .58 muzzleloader that I bought when I was a teen in 1976. Purchased it at Jackson's Gun Shop... the hole in the wall shop that was on the exterior/south end of the then-Northwood Mall. It pretty much looks just like every other H&R single shot out there.

I'd bet someone picks up the line under another brand name, unless it's just not profitable to make them. It's hard for me to see how they wouldn't be profitable, though, if Mossberg and Marlin can sell their entry level bolt action rifles for not much more than these H&R single shot rifles.
