Really? It'll state what it will filter out. Chemical, biological, radiological, etc. Most have the NATO universal filter on them.

So something higher than those N32 masks for H1N1 etc?

I've done some searches, but this doesn't look like an item our "normal" distributors carry. I will keep poking around.

If you can provide me with specific manufacturers, that would also help us out greatly...

Hang in there YF. You are on the steep part of the learning curve, but at least you are smart enough to know on the curve is where you need to be.

You can buy them in boxes of 25 at lowes cheap. Get em now while they are still on the shelves. Fortunately we have a decent supply on hand here already.

I just looked that up and lol'ed. Ok, now I am no longer confused as to why you guys would have what you're talking about.

We're gonna need some Breaking Bad shit, man.

I looked at some prices for reputable gas masks, on second thought, I might just use my beard.

Exactly, or the equivalent. I use OM10's currently, but there's been some dispute about their effectiveness.

The 3M 6000 DIN series, 7800S series, FR-7800B, and FR-M40 series all look to support threaded filters.

Dont forget the tyvek suits and gloves....good latex gloves can protect against a lot of things, if you remember to not contaminate yourself when taking them off !

What about the Israeli masks. They accept the 40mm universal filters which are fairly cheap.

dishdoc sent me a site a while back that showed which masks were ineffective to substances besides OC and gas. Pretty sure they were on there as no-go's.

Isn't it more about the filters than the mask when talking about what's going to work for what? So, like if the civilian use 3M masks Dale posted except Mil purposed filters for the shit we're actually worried about, wouldn't that be the way to go?

I'm on the same steep part of the curve that YF is on.

Well, as it pertains to gas masks. I know lotto tickets don't work.

While I like milsurp stuff (a lot), milsurp masks scare me (a lot). Does some system exist for testing the mask and is it something us mere mortals can do?

I've tried quite a few masks and ended up buying MSA millennium masks for the wife and I. They don't fog up because of the way the fresh air circulates. They also have a drinking tube and comms. Also purchased were a case of CBRN filters.

I think it would be a good idea to have some of you guys that are serious about a comfortable and efficient mask try different masks before making a purchase.

I've got a medium and a large MSA millennium.

Maybe meet up so you can check them out along with jafars om10 and whatever anyone else has.

Comfort while wearing it for extended Times and the level of protection are key points.
Don't get put off by the price because you can find them on e-bay for under $100.
The old saying"you get what you pay for" applies more than you know.
There are some pretty uncomfortable masks out there.
