Now Wayne, you know better than that. Anyone can win anytime.

I seem to recall just this evening someone having magazine problems, their gun hung up, they literally looked at it in disgust, laid it down, picked it back up, cleared it, reloaded it, and won the round.

Or was that just a fig newton of my imagination? :dunno:

I don't think he's been sandbagging . He's just improved that much. If you remember when we started this I said everyone would get better. I still believe that's true. And just for the record he beat me fair and square . And for you doubters both of the for the money shooters were shooting ( wait for it ) 1911s . I believe they were both Springfields as well. All in all I had a great time . Tyler is fast becoming the guy to beat if you decide you'd like to try pins you'd better bring your A game. Just saying------ and shit. :poke:

Fair is fair. That's the purpose of the exercise. To compare skills and see what works. Revolvers, after hanging around for 158 years, are apparently still fairly effective! I do think though downloading the mag capacity of the autos to 6 tilts the scale in terms of real world. It does make it fair for the wheel gun guys.

........and the 1911 guys. I'm sure that's just a coincidence.

Yes Sir just a coincidence . I'd personally like to go to 10 rounds per magazine and am prepared to do just that . You just need to talk Rumbler in to it. Only one or two guys shoot revolvers and if more of you semi auto guys would come shoot I think we could make something happen. We only have 12 to14 shooters most nights and I don't think that's enough to sustain the pin shoots. So I'm all for any thing with in reason that will help get more folks out to shoot. Hell I'll even loan you a Glock 45 acp or 10 mm if that will help get you out to shoot. But at any rate if any one is on the fence about trying it to my knowledge everyone that has tried it has had a great time. Come join us.

FLT

I'll take that bet,30 rounds of +p+ 9mm.

Trying to pull a "Johnny" on him I see. Good job!

I think that most of us have seen new shooters come out and shoot the (fresh) pins with their 9mm pistols. It only gets worse for them as the pins pick up a pound or two of lead. Then they show up the next week and all subsequent weeks with .45s.

I see it as a parallel to the 5.56 bowling pin thing. There is theory and there is reality. When they clash, the theorist loses.:roflmao:

Mikec2003
May 29th, 2014, 09:28 PM
my slightly biased opinion is that 10mm about the best round for pins. I'm launching a 180 grain bullet at nearly 1300 fps. Suck on that .45.

Put it this way, I'm slightly surprised when I hit a pin and it doesn't come off the table.

But, pass throughs are not common at all, the hardwood in the center is, well, hard.

Jim, I know you're not going to like the word, but humor me because it's an integral part to the story.

A co-worker and I were talking among a group and I said that women love it when you call them a "cunt". It was in the context of women liking a forceful man and one who will tell them what to do.

He didn't pick up on the sarcasm.

He's a black guy who was with a black woman. You ever seen a pissed off black woman?

Seriously though, I'm in either way. For the sake of getting out of there before we get locked in for the night it might be smart if folks want to do both to replace the 'fun match' we usually shoot with the rimfire pin tops.

Wow. Now one can see the why behind what "they" say about committees.

Jafar, I have the same bolt gun. It is my Remmy 700P .308 "trainer". It works very very well for that with the right ammo.

Guys, the last time we all discussed this match in person it was agreed on "any rifle or pistol, any optic, seated, kneeling, standing, or prone as long as it is .22LR, 10-rounds per load (magazine) maximum, and it is 50 yards." I added in consultation with JD, that the pin tops will be on a railroad crosstie and they need to fall over, not be knocked completely off the tie.

Unless you mutts get you shit together and collectively put forward some other complete plan, the last discussed and collectively agreed to plan is how I will be expecting to run the match.

Remember; this match is completely 100% optional. No one is compelled in any way, shape, or form to shoot it. The pistol pin league match will run as normal. :)

Too late. I set up 2 pins at 50 yards and shot 1 shot each. They did cartwheels. No worries. To hot for the Bill Nye coats and shit.

Invalid result.

How much do they weigh Doc?

Did the .22s penetrate and stay in?

I shot .40 grain blazers. 50 yards, standing. Never claimed to be normal. Normal people freak me out. Be glad to demonstrate the results again on Thursday. But to be fair to you guys we should really move the shoot out to 100 :-) I'm not as good as you guys at pistols but I shoot the shit outta .22s every weekend. It's affordable and shit. There, the gauntlet is down! Lab coats are optional. I'll bring some shotgun hulls to spice it up at 50 if ya'll want to step up lol.

Damn fast typing tack. The pins are cut at the bottom red line. Didn't weigh them nor the mace. You got a weight fetish?

It's relevant. Now get your damn pot scale and measure the pins.

I'll dang sure go for 200 yards. That is where my 22LR Savage is currently zeroed. Feelin froggy, Doc? :)

I don't remember the any position discussion. I thought we were discussing standing offhand. Thats why I said it earlier. If you go any other position - will you allow rests, bipods, lead sleds, other fixed and or gyroscopicially stablized mounts? Are you going to match up pistols against rifles? My view on this (your mileage will vary) was that we were going to test the skill of the shooter not the expense of the equipment. There is nothing like shooting offhand to test your metal. It is the great equalizer since few people practice it. Jim

I still vote for all positions but no lead sleds, etc. standing kneeling sitting and prone.

Jim, you missed the following weeks discussion.

The attempt was to make it more inclusive. You know some of the old farts shake like a leaf (including me).

It was my personal thought that the time lost moving rests, restabilizing gyroscopes, from pin top to pin top would more than likely offset any advantage in using them to compete against a shooter who chose an unsupported standing position (or the like).

But - and I really mean this - it don't matter to me if I personally like the match or not. This is all about you guys. Like I said earlier; you guys workout an alternative complete plan and I'll run it that way.

. . and enjoy the seemingly inevitable fistfight you all get into during the process. :nyahnyah:

Me and Doc already got a side match . . . . for the side match.

Hopefully I'll have time to sight my shit at 200 prior to the match. However I'll damn sure show and shoot sir. I love that shit. Long range with the .22 is a blast to me.

The starrett steel rule requires no lab coat.

At least answer ONE of the questions.

You miss my point. Some of us like watching you old folks shake... And its about the most excitement you guys get being as old as you are... Short of popping the little blue pill, but then you couldn't shoot prone anyway. Well, maybe it wouldnt make a difference with you guys anyway. ;)

Did the .22s penetrate and stay in?Battery in the scale is low and apparently it DOESN'T work without a lab coat. I'll try to pick up a battery tomorrow and stop by Walter Whites for a lab coat so you can adjust your rim fire hand loads accordingly:cooler:
