BTW, this will not be a typical group buy. Whichever vendor we choose ( http://www.ar500armor.com/ or http://www.thetargetman.com/) you will be able to select anything they have.
We will need to get a minimum order, and we should be lower than their online prices, even with tax, but don't expect it to be 20%.
If we go with thetargetman you can get Ceramic, UHMWPE or AR500 steel, as well as targets and stands.

Probably as a plate backer, they don't want the weight of the plates (ceramic or steel) or to increase the threat level protection. Some plates that list level 4 protection are to be used in conjunction with level 3a soft armor.

Well, honestly, some people are preparing for a day and time where ordering more gear will not be a possibility. Steel can take multiple hits. Most ceramic is combat ineffective after the first hit. Also, ceramic plates shatter if you drop them at the right angle, which is a lot easier than you think. For effectiveness and duration, I personally would, and have, chosen steel.

I agree with the steel, which is what I have as the ceramic is too fragile and I know depts who issue it and then do not perform required follow up X-Rays.
However the AR500 rigs I have seen are MUCH heavier than mine and I went with AP46100D with Linex for spall protection. Tested at Aberdeen proving grounds and very interesting open source US govt PDF on same.
Dont get me wrong AR500 will probably work, but the weight will kill you.

Outside of eBay, I haven't found a vendor who sells the 46100d steel plates. And I can't get away from the fear that I'm not exactly guaranteed that the guy selling 46100D on eBay is actually selling legit stuff...with all the scammers on eBay...I've been sold counterfeit apple products, counterfeit otter boxes, etc...difference is I didn't have to get shot in the heart to learn it was fake.
NJC
July 9th, 2014, 09:01 PM
same can be said about the AR500. It's cheap enough that you can test it also it is not a restricted material. Any shop that cuts AR500 plates probably has a WJ machine that wil cut AP46100D
I can show you a piece of 1/2 inch steel that looks like AR500 with a .30 cal hole in it next C4 if you like... As always YMMV, but AR is NOT AP.

Ok.. one (1) 10x12 swimmer cut AP plate with Linex is 6.4 lbs. I think they are 1/4 inch thick, did not measure that this time, but memory tells me they were 1/4 inch then another 1/4 for linex, so just about 1/2 inch thick total.
I dont use the side plates, for reasons discussed previously. So my plates add 12.8lbs to my loadout.
BR549
July 9th, 2014, 09:33 PM
Ok, so that's 1.1 pounds lighter that each AR500 plate which weighs 7.5 lbs - 2.2 lbs more for the load out as a whole. A loaded AR mag weighs about 1 pound for reference. Pounds do add up and if all else was equal id love the lighter option.
NJC
July 9th, 2014, 09:35 PM
really.. thats all... Dayum.. the AR500 rig I picked up a couple of weeks ago weighed a ton and it was a stripped down carrier....maybe his was thicker ??? Are you getting 1/4 or 1/2

Although ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain, I'm glad I went with the AR500 plates. I've shot the shit out of my AR500 targets with all my weapons at CLOSER than recommended ranges and they have held up well. I bought a plate carrier and plates to have the best protection available to me for the long term. I'll gladly tote the extra 2 pounds for the knowledge that I'm wearing as good as it gets that I can afford. Plus I bet the First Spear carrier is lighter than the average bear so I'd like to weigh plates and carrier when I get mine and do a comparison. I'll bet the difference isn't all that much.

I got some info from ESS.
What you see on that page is what they got.
I asked about getting the other barrels with the FSB installed, that is a nogo, on the ones listed with a FSB get an FSB, you will have to send it out or do it yourself.
They do not have AK 74 barrels (if anyone other than me was interested).
They do not make 20: barrels, or offer any chambers other than 5.56 (so Wylde and 223 are out).
They do have a
There is no extra cost for different twists. Most barrels are 1-7 or 1-9, and anything listed as a HB (heavy barrel) is 1-10. In 1-8 you can get the M4 16” and the SOCOM 18” Nitride.
Chrome lining is a extra $31.

I'd take a finished CBA-M4-160-556-03 1in7" if we can do this.
You guys keep in mind here, that they offer both of those FSB mounted barrels in 5.56 and 7.62mm. So, technically, there are 4 barrels offered with FSBs. Those of you guys going with clamp on low-pro gas blocks can order anything there without having to have machine work done later.

BTW, I have no idea on real pricing yet, Shipping has to get added in as well as a few shackles for Danman to buy his monkey porn and for the Governor to get polish for his head. Figure somewhere between 15 and 25% over what they list.

Apparently they manufacture at least some of Midway USA's ARSTONER barrels. (look at the part number on mindway, compare it CBA-M4-160-556-03 )
Look at the reviews. I don't want someone to be expecting top quality stuff at this price.

The Delton. They are currently out of the non-chrome lined. If they had it in stock it would be $148.50 plus tax, $159.64 out the door.
Chrome lined (in stock) is $185.90 plus tax, $199.84 out the door.
16" pre-ban light weight
1x9 twist barrel available in chrome moly or chrome lined (choose option for chrome lined)
Comes with FSB, barrel nut, and handguard cap
Does NOT include front sight post, detent, spring or front sling and rivet
Dale Gribble
July 30th, 2014, 02:52 PM
If we get a group to buy the Delton stuff, the prices come down because of shipping. Expect around $10 off (each barrel) for orders of 3 or more.

Shipping from ESS is estimated at 20-30 per 10 barrels. They didn't really seem to understand the question very well. I'm a little worried, I don't want to do a group buy and everyone ends up with useless shit and pissed off at The Arms Affair.
