Just finished reloading 1000 rounds of 9mm at 16 cent a round using berry bullets, federal primers , tightgroup powder and free brass. Can it be done cheaper?

Yes. Significantly (like; half that).
But it requires large bulk orders of components.

I do it for a little less, and that's not buying in bulk.

Dale - how do you like those hard cast lead bullets by Freedom?
The last few boxes of 9mm I've purchased have been about $.32-.35 per round, so that's well under 1/2, and approaching 1/3 of the retail cost.

They seem to work fine. I did the Pepsi challenge with Federal and Remington ammo and it was as accurate and functioned flawlessly out of various glocks and a hi standard.
My P38 however didn't like my reloads. It however doesn't like the super cheap Federal bulk pack either, not enough power to properly cycle.

Takes a hotter round to cycle that toggle bolt. I think the Germans shot a bigger bullet than 115 grains also.

P38 doesn't have a toggle bolt, its actually like a crude version of a M9 when you look at it. But my guess is that you are pretty close to right, they probably built it with stronger springs to withstand the same ammo used in the Luger. As it is P38/P1's have issues with frames cracking.
